2nd Update on the Archbishop’s Ad Limina Apostolorum Visit to Rome

Second UPDATE ON THE ARCHBISHOP’S AD LIMINA APOSTOLORUM VISIT – ROME

The Metropolitan Archbishop of Monrovia, Most Rev. Dr. Gabriel Blamo Jubwe, together with Most Rev. Anthony Fallah Borwah (Bishop of Gbarnga), Most Rev. Andrew Jagaye Karnley (Bishop of Cape Palmas), and their brother Bishops from The Gambia and Sierra Leone, continue their sacred pilgrimage Ad Limina Apostolorum—“to the thresholds of the Apostles.”

Following our earlier reports, we are pleased to share further updates on the spiritual and pastoral engagements of Wednesday, March 25, and Thursday, March 26.

Event Description

Wednesday, March 25: Solemnity of the AnnunciationOn this great feast, the Bishops’ engagements centered on the sanctification of the faithful and the safeguarding of the Deposit of Faith.Dicastery for Divine Worship and the Discipline of the Sacraments: The Bishops held fruitful discussions on the Sacred Liturgy, emphasizing fidelity to the Church’s liturgical norms while encouraging the “full, conscious, and active participation” of the lay faithful in the sacramental life of the Church. Dicastery for Evangelization & Dicastery for the Doctrine of the Faith: These sessions focused on the mission of the New Evangelization within the West African context. Key discussions included strengthening catechesis—especially among the youth—and preserving the integrity of Catholic doctrine amid contemporary challenges. Station Pilgrimage – Basilica of St. Paul Outside the Walls: The day concluded with a solemn pilgrimage to the tomb of St. Paul the Apostle. In prayerful reverence, the Archbishop and his brother Bishops entrusted their dioceses to the Lord, praying for a “New Pentecost” and a renewed apostolic zeal across their nations. Thursday, March 26: Faith, Culture, and the Formation of Minds Dicastery for Culture and Education: The Bishops reflected on the critical role of Catholic education in shaping both faith and society. Emphasis was placed on ensuring that Catholic institutions remain centers of excellence—promoting human dignity and fostering the integral development of the human person. The Spirit of the Visit: Communion and CollegialityThe Ad Limina visit is far more than an administrative obligation; it is a profound expression of communion between the local Churches and the See of Peter. In their encounters with His Holiness, Pope Leo XIV, and the various offices of the Roman Curia, the Bishops carry with them the joys, hopes, and concerns of the faithful of Liberia, The Gambia, and Sierra Leone. This sacred journey has also provided a moment of fraternal renewal. Free from the immediate demands of diocesan administration, the Bishops have shared in moments of “collegial affection”—strengthening their bonds of brotherhood through prayer, reflection, and fellowship. We invite all the faithful of the Archdiocese—priests, religious, and laity—to remain steadfast in prayer for Archbishop Gabriel Blamo Jubwe and all our Bishops. May the Holy Spirit continue to guide them, and may this pilgrimage bear abundant spiritual fruits for our local Churches.“May the Lord who began this good work bring it to fulfillment.” (cf. Phil 1:6)One in Mission, Office of the Archbishop
